Welcome to Kelly's Connection!

Hello everyone,

My name is Kelly.  This is my first blog and I am so excited about it!

I am eight years old and I'm in third grade. I live in Southern California with my mom, dad, big brother and our dog Diesel. Diesel is a greyhound and we rescued him after his racing career was over. He is the gentlest dog in the world!
Diesel

My mom is  German and my dad is American. One of my favorite things to do is visit Germany!

My hobbies are ballet, piano, soccer, drawing and skiing. My newest hobby is blogging :0)  In my opinion, blogging is so much fun! I love it because you get to share your story and connect with people from all over the world. Sometimes you can even find blogging buddies!

I am looking forward to sharing my hobbies, interests and exciting stories with you!

I'm thankful to Mrs.Yollis, my teacher, for teaching us how to comment and post. I am really happy that I am in her class.

    Dear Kelly,

Welcome to the world of blogging! I am very proud of the way you have assembled your blog. You have a nice mix of interesting gadgets and no animation at the top. Remember how distracting it was to try and read a post when something is spinning in the sidebar?

Your little Hedgy is quite cute! Do you know any fun facts about hedgehogs?

One of the things I liked about your post is that you added detail sentences. You mentioned that you love blogging and then you gave us an opinion sentences and an explanation about why you like blogging. Well done!

You asked about my hobbies. My hobbies include gardening, reading, and yoga. Over the weekend, I was out repotting some plants, and it was so much fun. I love reading because I can go places in my imagination, learn new words, and grow dendrites as I read! Finally, yoga is something I do several times a week. It helps me stay strong and healthy.

You mentioned you liked ballet. What have you learned in your classes? Are there special steps to learn?

    Your proud teacher,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Thank you for giving me my own blog and leaving the first comment!

I am glad that you like hedgy. I chose him, because he is so cute!
I have seen a hedgehog in Germany. My mom's friend keeps one as a pet.
I can tell you that hedgehogs are the smelliest pets ever!
Hedgehogs are nocturnal, they eat insects and are better kept in the wild!

Thank you for talking about your hobbies, they are very interesting. I love reading too! I think it is really fun to read and I like following the characters.

Ballet is my favorite hobby and I have learned many things from Arabesques (that's a position) to Echappe (that's a jump). I also learned about hard work. My teacher says that everything in ballet is supposed to hurt!
You learn one thing at a time and get better and better :0)

    Love,

    Kelly

  3. Dear Kelly,

My name is Stef Galvin and I'm a teacher from Melbourne, Australia. I came across your blog from a comment on Twitter by Mrs. Yollis.

Congratulations on your first blog! I'm very impressed with your blog layout. You have some widgets that I haven't seen before! I love the way you've made sure your first blog post has some information about yourself and the things that you like. It's a great way to get to know you.

We have something in common - one of my newest hobbies is blogging, too! I've been blogging for about six months, and it's still very exciting! I've been able to meet lots of fantastic teachers and students from all over the world through blogging - and I hope you have a similar experience. I also enjoy reading, writing stories and craft activities.

In your post you said that you enjoy drawing: what kind of things do you like to draw?

I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future!

    All the best,

  4. Dear Kelly
Congratulations on earning your own blog. I think your title is very clever and catchy!
I hope you make lots of blogging connections around the world.

Your little pet Hedgy reminded me that we sometimes see hedgehogs in our garden on summer evenings. Two summers ago we saw a mother hedgehog with her young baby following along behind her. They didn't mind us being there, I think they were busy looking for snails (which we have plenty of in our garden!)

I'm looking forward to reading more about you and your hobbies.

    best wishes

  5. Kelly-

My name is Miss Keenan and I teach 2nd grade in Chicago! When I was in 6th grade we had a hedgehog as a class pet! When he got scared he'd curl up into a little tiny ball of spikes. That's how hedgehogs protect themselves!

My favorite part of blogging is having other people read my writing and respond. It makes me think carefully about what I write and I learn a lot from people's comments!

My hobbies are reading, skiing and being with family and friends.

Keep up the great blogging work!!

  6. Hello Kelly and congratulations with your blog. It was only a year ago that I made my first blog and I am a teacher! I teach a year three class in Brisbane Australia and will be adding your blog to our class blog roll. Just like you I love the idea that blogging makes connections around the world and you find out so many interesting facts from each other. You are welcome to check out our class blog. Did you know we are on holidays in Australia until late January?
My favourite hobby is reading and I love playing and watching netball. Do you like reading?
Keep up your fabulous efforts with your blog.
    Mrs B
P.s we have an animal in Australia very similar to a hedgehog but called an echidna.

  7. Congratulations, Kelly. I know Mrs. Yollis from Twitter and have Skyped with her to get information to help my students with their blogs. She explained to me how her students earn their very own blogs, so you should be proud of that accomplishment.

My mom was from Northern Ireland and my dad was from England. I have visited both countries several times. Isn't traveling to another country so exciting?

My hobbies are surfing the web for great resources to share with others, reading, and traveling. I don't own any pets at this time, but I have owned several dogs that I either got from the SPCA or friends that couldn't keep a dog any longer. Diesel, looks like a wonderful pet and I'm glad your family rescued him.

Blogging is a way for me to reflect on my teaching, share resources with others, or just write about what I'm thinking. Welcome to the blogosphere and keep up the great writing.

What are your goals for this year?

  8. Dear Kelly,
I am a new blogger too (I just started after Christmas.) I am finding it to be a great way to share ideas that I think will be important for other teachers and pastors to hear. (I am a high school teacher and a retired pastor.) My main hobby is reading, but I have just started a garden. I am growing brussel sprouts and green peppers. This will be my second crop from my yard. It is really fun to be outside and see what is happening in my yard. I have roses and a lovely camilla bush with pink flowers. I find blogging to be challenging (I think writing well is hard.); but it is GREAT to have an audience of people all over the world.

My name is Emily and today I learned about your blog from my mum (who saw Mrs Yollis's tweet about it).
Congratulations for earning your new blog. I really like Hedgy the hedgehog because he is cute and spiky, and I fed him a strawberry. I am going to ask my teacher if I can add a bunnyhero pet to my blog too.
My favourite hobbies are reading and drawing (I really like drawing cartoon animals, especially pigs) and I have been learning ballet and piano too.
I live in New Zealand and I am on Summer holiday at the moment. I go back to school in 4 weeks.
Keep up the good work on your blog. It looks great.

  10. Hi, Kelly,
Your blog is fantastic! I am glad someone tweeted out the link to your post so I could learn more about your greyhound! I love greyhounds! We adopted two- London and Lily. They are the best dogs EVER! They are sweet, kind, hilarious, and lovable. Here is a link with some photos of my greyhounds: http://greyhounds365.posterous.com/
I started a Project 365 this year featuring photos of my greyhounds, and that link shares the beginning of what I hope is a very fun year of photo-taking!
I am a principal at an elementary school in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Some of our third graders are blogging, too. I will be sure to share your blog with them!
I like blogging because it helps me reflect upon what I've learned, and share my ideas with others. I love reading others' blogs, too.
    Happy blogging!

I love your background! Was there a reason you chose it? I also like the font you chose for the header.

My favorite part of your blog is the picture when you were playing with the snow.

My hobbies are soccer, reading, piano, learning Farsi and blogging.

  14. Dear Kelly,

Wow, this is a fantastic first post. I was very touched when you talked about Diesel. It is so nice that people rescue animals. My children grew up with a tabby cat and a golden retriever. My daughter now has a tuxedo cat and a schnoodle (a mix of a schnauzer and poodle). I love taking care of my grandpets.

I am very impressed with your multiple and varied hobbies. I enjoy going to my eldest granddaughter's dance recitals.

Do you speak some German? It is so great to be able to travel to a foreign country.

I am a retired teacher who taught in New York City. I am now living in Florida.

    Keep on blogging.

When I listened to the radio, I heard that Taylor Swift, my favorite singer, is performing in New Zealand. Have you heard of her? She makes beautiful music and writes her own songs.

  32. Hello Kelly,

Welcome to the world of blogging. I thought I had already written a comment but it may have been lost when I had a network problem here. :)

I like Diesel. Greyhounds can make wonderful pets. One day one had wandered onto the family farm run by my cousin and stayed. He was a very fast runner. :)

Your family is a great combination of cultures. Germany is a country I would like to visit one day. I know my ancestors include people from Germany. Unfortunately, I only know a few words in German but at least I can say hello and thank you. :)

Favorite part of blogging? Like you, I find blogging to be fun but I especially like visiting and commenting on blogs around the world. There are so many people with really creative ideas.

Hobbies? Blogging and blog commenting are two of my hobbies but I also like photography, video work to make CDs and DVDs, walking in our local nature reserve and national parks, writing, art and music. There are so many things that are interesting to do but I think you know that. :)

Hopefully you can teach me how to make my own next time I'm home. I want a hedgehog too! My favorite hobbies are exercising and watching sports. I'm actually watching the BCS National Championship game between Alabama and Louisiana State right now. This game will decide who is the nation's best college football team. I'm happy to see you like ballet so much because in addition to being expressive and artistic it is also a great physical challenge! I'm excited to keep up with your new blog!

My favorite summer activity is swimming too. Unfortunately I can't go swimming when my hair is freshly straightened. I have really curly hair and it is easier to manage when straight. It puffs up really big when it gets wet and I have to keep it away from water.

My favorite piano piece is "Time to get up". I just started playing the piano and it is a fun piece for beginners.

Do you remember how I talked about making blogging buddies? I think we are blogging buddies now . :0)

I looked up your blog today and it was amazing! I added it to my sidebar right away. I love your hummingbird background and your made up story.
